We are looking for a coffee manager and lead barista to manage and motivate our staff to provide great customer service and create excellent products at our Downtown San Antonio location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing day-to-day operations of baristas
  • Hiring and onboarding new baristas
  • Training employees on drinks preparation and proper use of coffee equipment
  • Scheduling shifts for baristas
  • Monitoring daily expenses and revenues
  • Ordering supplies including coffee, milk and tea
  • Monitoring daily usage and waste

To be successful in this role you should have extensive barista experience. You should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays. Ultimately, you will help increase profitability, boost customer engagement and maintain product and service standards.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day coffee and tea operations while being on bar as the lead barista
  • Assume responsibility for all aspects of the coffee bar
  • Be “on-call” with the responsibility to respond to problems or fill-in as needed
  • Hire and onboard new baristas
  • Train employees on drink preparation and proper use of coffee equipment
  • Manage coffee equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Coordinate with vendors and order supplies
  • Maintain updated records revenues and expenses
  • Help onboard new menu items
  • Advise staff on the best ways to resolve issues with clients and deliver excellent customer service
  • Continued education - proactively train staff to maintain standards
  • Ensure cafe areas and barista stations are clean and tidy
  • Nurture friendly relationships with customers
  • Lead staff meetings
  • Be a model barista, both as far as bar skills, customer service and enthusiasm to share knowledge

Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Work experience as a cafe manager and barista
  • Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines
  • Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Customer service attitude
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills Infectious love of coffee
  • Ability to keep a calm, mature, professional demeanor when needed
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and staff management
  • A high degree of ethics and obsession with customer service
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to self-direct when necessary
  • High level of organization
  • Adaptability and the ability to creatively troubleshoot difficult situations
  • Superior leadership capabilities; ability to work well within groups
  • At least 3 years of experience in specialty coffee and the coffee industry
  • Focused perspective on what a high-functioning coffee bar looks like and how to execute that perspective
  • A passion for small business and quality products
